Communities of Practice in Mathematics
Christine Müller is a PhD student from the Jacobs University Bremen, who is working with Prof. Cristian Calude for the next 7 months. In her PhD, Christine is using the metaphor of Communities of Practice to enrich semantic mark-up formats for science, in particular, mathematics with social and collaborative components. By integrating social (Web2.0) technologies and user modelling techniques, Christine aims at eventually improving the management, in particular, the accessibility of mathematical online materials. To illustrate and evaluate her approach, she is currently implementing a prototype eLearning application, which is used within an introductory Computer Science lecture at Jacobs University Bremen.
In the seminar, Christine will introduce the underlying representation format for mathematics and present the latest findings of her work, i.e. a framework for the context-aware adaptation of mathematical notations.
